There was a bill going through the Colorado legislature in the late 2000's I was involved in that was to get resources to victims of domestic abuse. It singled out veterans as having a high rate of domestic abusers in the communities, especially around Fort Carson. It failed to mention the high rate of domestic abusers in law enforcement and doctors that actually exceeded the rate of among veterans. I gave voice to the slander and discriminatory characterization of veterans in the bill and was able to get the offensive language removed from the bill. Oh, and the bill and its supporters were all Democrats.

They didn't have any sensitivity to how offensive the slander and characterization of veterans was. They are blind to it, have a complete lack of regard for veterans, believed they were just stating a known, uncontroversial, agreed-upon fact. They exist in an echo chamber, arrogant that they possess superior truth. When will the right wake up and understand that these people truly, honestly, earnestly believe that we are bitter clingers and deplorables on the wrong side of history? They seek our submission to their domination. They do not believe in our system of governance, moderation, compromise. They are right, we are wrong. They win, we lose. Which means we are in a war. There can be no truce, they must lose. Or we will. Mutually exclusive outcomes.

All decent people level their criticisms of others fairly and with a sense of balance. In this case the critic of the veteran seems petty, self-serving and rather desperate.

However, I will never sign on to the idea that Thou Shalt Never Criticize Anyone Who Ever Donned a Uniform. That sort of knee-jerk hero-worship of those who were said to have "served" is over the top, and no self-respecting man or woman relinquishes his or her right to criticize on the basis of mob-think.

Personally, I have zero use for servicepeople who like to throw their obedience to their masters up in civilians' faces, especially since the old national mythology about their "defending" our rapidly-disappearing freedoms is dissolving with each passing day. We owe them nothing by default, because in very few cases did they actually do anything of tangible value for us citizens.
