This rhetoric has been driving me nuts. Mostly because a lot of people don’t seem to get that NATO involvement would make the US and Canada legit military targets. I truly believe that the war would not just stay in Europe, but come to North America. The tech we/the Russians have is way different than what everyone was playing w/ in 1945. It wouldn’t be that hard for Russia to bomb and destroy our cities, if it really wanted to. I keep asking people who support this, if they are willing to accept the responsibility for increasing the risk of our cities and houses being blown up and creating more areas like Chernobyl. Because this is what they are asking for when they call for NATO intervention.

The best we can hope for is a grudgingly accepted peace settlement that gives both Ukraine and Russia the security they desire. They are both going to have to give something and neither will be completely happy, but We simply can’t afford for this to escalate. It’s sad we can’t do more, but The greater risk is destroying the planet and humanity. Freedom won’t matter if we are dead. This isn’t like Afghanistan where NATO could just bomb everything w/o much retaliation. And politicians always tell us that wars will be quick and controllable. That rarely turns out to be true. :-(

In light of the ever-changing news out of Ukraine, the global misinformation and disinformation campaigns one must heed Rene Descartes admonishment, to question everything!

In that vein I submit to you and your readers a significant and insightful voice from the past. Alexandr Solzhenistyn, Soviet dissident who documented the rise of the Soviet state, collectivist authoritarianism imposed on an unwitting people. The methods of deception and ruses designed to keep the truth and reality of the agenda of a ruling, self-imagined elite from those they considered to be the ignorant masses. The Gulag Archipelago he penned shares his stories and lessons to future readers. For us to read and re-read today if it has been a long time since you first read it.

Solzhenistyn gave many prominent interviews in west after his release from the gulags. Among them was a fascinating one with Forbes magazine in 1994.

https://www.forbes.com/2008/08/05/solzhenitsyn-forbes-interview-oped-cx_pm_0804russia.html

In this interview he had this to say that acquires relevance given the developments of today:

AS: "If one looks far into the future, one can foresee in the 21st century such a time when the U.S. together with Europe will be in dire need of Russia as an ally.

PK: "That is a puzzling assertion."

AS: "It is puzzling only for those who don't look into the future and do not see what kind of new powers are arising in the world."

Note: Just three years earlier in 1991 was when Pres. George HW Bush gave his "New World Order" speech. The same term used by the WEF's Klaus Schwab, synonymous with The Great Reset/UN Agenda 2030. The same term used by leaders across the western democracies, politicians, corporatists, the Deputy PM of Ukraine's own declaration of what she is fighting for. And the US Assistant Secretary of State just admitted that the US runs bioweapon labs in Ukraine...just like in Wuhan, China. That the WEF has celebrated the release of Covid as a great opportunity to "Reset" the world in the wake of its man-imposed destruction of freedom in the US and western liberal democracies. That Fauci and Biden tell us to forget about, is selfish and dangerous.

Solzhenistyn also gave this interview to the New York Times in 2007, where he spoke of Russia and Ukraine.

To understand the present, the agendas and conflicts in order to make our way through the fog of war, the fog of misinformation and disinformation we must understand what the voices of history have told us. Because, to paraphrase Solzhenistyn, it is only puzzling for those who don't look into the past and so they do not see what kind of new powers are arising in the world today.

Milton Mayer, another historian who's voice from the past tells us how evil arose seemingly under the noses of ordinary Germans in the 1930's in his book, "They Thought They Were Free." Interviews with survivors, even supporters of the Third Reich. Fascinating read. I suggest turning to pages 167-172 for a prescient warning to us all in 2022. Which perhaps tells us why Solzhenistyn made such a puzzling assertion in 1994 about Russia's future role in the world.
